America at a Crossroads

As we approached one of America’s most consequential presidential elections in our history, we wanted to create a forum for discussing, among other things, our judiciary in crisis, gerrymandering and inequities in our electoral system, the rise of antisemitism and Islamophobia, the danger of “alternative facts” in news coverage, and, above all, the 2024 presidential campaign.

We created Democracy ’24 Town Halls — a live, 16-part, weekly series of one-on-one conversations among prominent national figures in politics, culture, journalism and justice.

The Democracy ’24 Town Halls are open to the entire alumni and student communities (and interested friends) who will have an opportunity to engage with each week’s guests during the Q&A session.

Future guests include Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer and presidential historian, author of seven NYT bestsellers, and distinguished visiting professor at Vanderbilt; Linda Greenhouse ’68, Pulitzer Prize-winning Supreme Court reporter during four decades at the New York Times, and senior research scholar in law at Yale Law School; Evan Thomas ’74, historian, author of eleven books. including four NYT bestsellers; Emily Bazelon, NYT Magazine writer and Yale Law lecturer, and cohost of the podcast “Political Gab Fest”.

Democracy ’24 Town Halls is created and produced by Rick Lyon ’75 and Kurt Andersen ’76, in association with Marching Towards Justice of the Class of ’75, supported by ClassACT73 and its multiclass entities.

Open to the entire community of alumni, students, and friends. Share this website with them:
